If you read some of my tabs on the right of the home page you will see why I am promoting preparedness.  I recently purchased some really neat solar lights that appear to work really well.  They charge during the day and can light all night.  Great for home or camping.

Go to waka-waka.com and check these out.  They also have a solar unit that will charge your cell or smartphone as well as double as a emergency light.  I have checked mine out and they will easily run all night on their lower settings.  The charger unit charged Pat's phone in a couple of hours.

We also recently purchased a Berkey water filter which will safely filter any type of water, whether tap water, saved rainwater or pond water.  They have several sizes so check them all out to see which works best for your needs.  That brings up another point, that is, you may want to consider a rain barrel to attach to a gutter to save water for watering plants and possibly to filter for drinking water if necessary.
