Spring to Summer Garden 2013

A  few pics of our spring garden.  It has been a late spring and a few late frosts took out some tomatoes and cucumbers but we have replaced them and all is growing with all the good sunshine and rain.  The first two pics are of the apple trees in bloom, one with a tiger swallowtail butterfly having lunch.  Apparently the apple blossoms fared ok as there are lots of little apples.

The pic at the bottom right is of our blackberries in bloom.  They are Ouachita Thornless blackberries developed by the University of Arkansas.  Last years production was enormous.

The pic below left is the rest of the raised bed garden.  To the right are beds of spinach, beets, green beans, lettuce and peas.  The other beds hold tomatoes, cucumbers, asparagus, garlic and onions.  Blueberries, strawberries, grapes and raspberries are growing too.

I encourage you to start a garden this year.  You don't have to go to this extreme but I started small and it just sort of evolved.  Remember, healthy eating is best from your own garden.  You will feel better and look better.

The bottom two pics are of the garden in mid June.  It's amazing what a spring of good rainfall will do.  Pat and I are already picking green beans, peas, blackberries and blueberries.  The strawberries are finished for now.
